When to Use Bona Freshen Up
Bona Freshen Up is particularly useful when a lacquered wooden floor has become dull or developed light surface wear but the existing protective finish is still intact and does not yet require complete sanding and refinishing.
It provides a useful maintenance stage between routine cleaning and full renovation, helping restore a more uniform and attractive appearance to the existing floor surface.
Surface Preparation
The floor must be thoroughly clean and completely dry before application. Remove loose dust, grit and debris, followed by appropriate cleaning to remove grease, dirt and maintenance residues that could interfere with an even application.
Do not apply over heavily contaminated surfaces or incompatible maintenance treatments without carrying out the appropriate preparation first.
Application Guidance
Shake the container thoroughly before use. Apply Bona Freshen Up evenly to the clean and dry floor using a suitable Bona applicator or approved maintenance pad.
Work systematically across the floor and maintain an even application. Avoid repeatedly working back into areas that have already started to dry, as this may affect the final appearance.
Allow the treated floor to dry fully according to Bona’s current technical instructions before allowing normal foot traffic or replacing furniture.
Bona Freshen Up vs Bona Polish
Bona Freshen Up is designed to refresh compatible lacquered wooden floors, restoring lustre and helping reduce the visibility of fine surface scratches.
Bona Polish is a separate maintenance coating available in Matt and Gloss finishes and is more appropriate where a defined polish layer and selected sheen level are required.
Important Note
Bona Freshen Up is a maintenance refresher for compatible finished wooden floors and must not be applied directly to bare, unfinished timber.
Freshen Up cannot repair deep scratches, areas where the lacquer has worn completely through or structural damage to the timber. Floors in this condition may require professional sanding and refinishing.
Where the existing floor finish or previous maintenance treatment is unknown, always test the product on a small inconspicuous area before treating the complete floor.
FAQs
What is Bona Freshen Up used for?
It refreshes dull and lightly worn lacquered wooden floors, restores lustre and helps reduce the visibility of fine surface scratches.
Is Bona Freshen Up a cleaner?
No. The floor must be properly cleaned before application. Freshen Up is a maintenance refresher rather than a routine cleaning product.
Does it repair scratches?
It can help conceal fine surface scratches, but it will not repair deep scratches or damage that penetrates through the existing finish.
Can it be used on bare wood?
No. It is intended for compatible lacquered and finished wooden floors.
Does the floor need sanding before application?
Not for normal maintenance use. The existing finish must, however, be intact, compatible, thoroughly clean and dry.
Why choose the 5L pack?
The 5L size is more practical for professional contractors, larger residential floors, commercial premises and regular maintenance programmes.
When is sanding and refinishing required instead?
If the existing coating has worn through to bare timber, contains deep damage or is failing, Freshen Up is not a substitute for proper sanding and refinishing.
